Manor houses, medieval villages and wineries full of history decorate this bucolic landscape, starting from Porto and reaches Miranda do Douro, on the Spanish border. You can still find rabelos sailing along the river, the traditional boats that once were used to transport the wine barrels.
The vineyards are cultivated in stepped terraces on the slopes of the mountain, and the grapes are gathered by hand and placed behind the shoulders with baskets as it used to be two thousand years ago. From the viewpoints located throughout the route you can see all the beauty and charm of the surrounding countryside.
Lush green countryside and fertile plains, tiny villages and mountain paths that never leaves anyone indifferent: the valley, the blue of river, the terraced vineyards… and the splendid wineries of Vila Nova de Gaia, seventeenth-century originals that climb up the hillside. It is easy to understand that some call it the Enchanted Valley.
